I heard a young man take the Holy Name of Jesus in vain today. He was angry with himself and was drinking too. It's difficult to reason with someone like this.
I was taught to strike my breast and quietly exclaim, "Jesus, Mercy!" when I heard the Holy Name of God used as an expletive. But it never seemed enough or very effective. Now I quickly fall to one knee before asking Jesus for mercy. So far, it has stopped further insults to God.

An absolutely beautiful idea. I will put it into practice in my own life. For who can argue with a genuflection, where one makes himself low before God as he asks for mercy on another.
It would take a real drunkard to ask the supplicant why he had dropped to one knee, hear the answer and not be moved.
Very moving- thank you.
Wish I had the courage to do that at our next staff meeting. Imagine. Fifteen men around a table in a crowded conference room, the manager takes the name of Christ in vain for the umpteenth time, I scoot back my chair, move my briefcase, stand up, and genuflect with a prayer ... I don't know. I should do it, but sadly I don't think I will. I would be laughed out of the room. Maybe someday when I'm really converted.
on these lines, you can check out W's review of Cinderella Man
Stephen, thanks for directing me to TradReviews of Cinderella Man. I'm an "out of date" person regarding most new movies, but I like to read good reviews--perhaps one will persuade me to actually go to a theatre to see a movie someday! [Maybe one like "The Picture of Dorian Gray."]
